About The Company
Grammer Transport Holdings, Inc. is a leading transportation hauler of bulk hazardous liquids serving the eastern half of the United States. Based in Grammer, IN, the Company is a primary hauler of anhydrous ammonia as well as liquefied petroleum gas, carbon dioxide, nitric acid, and other bulk hazardous and waste related materials.
Case Study
In 2012, Linx partnered with Shorty Whittington and his family in a recapitalization transaction designed to a) provide partial liquidity; b) partner with a transportation-experienced private equity firm to grow the business; and c) offer equity ownership to key members of the management team. The Whittington family had built Grammer into a leader in the transport of anhydrous ammonia and other bulk liquids, but they needed a partner to help them grow. With Linx’s help, Grammer improved their financial department by hiring a CFO with public trucking company experience. Since trucking companies continue to deal with driver shortages in their industry, it was also important to increase the Company’s resources in driver recruiting, retention and management. To improve in these areas, Grammer hired a Chief Administrative Officer to coordinate all the functions of the Company with a particular focus on human resources and drivers. In addition, a new driver manager position was created to work closely with the Company’s drivers and independent contractors.
In order to diversify the business further, Grammer acquired Ohio-based Select Transport in 2014, which expanded the Company’s LP gas hauling capabilities. In 2015, Grammer hired a director of new business development to explore other chemical end markets. Grammer also completed the consolidation of its headquarters, dispatch office, and safety & training facilities to its new Columbus, IN location.
In 2018 Grammer was sold in a recapitalization transaction to another private equity firm.
